Abstract

São Paulo historian Nize Isabel de Moraes (1938-2015) – still virtually unknown in Brazil – lived in the city of Dakar, Senegal, becoming a pioneering Africanist, a specialist in Senegambian studies. This article sketches the outlines of a “biography” of her collection, based on her “personal archive”, looking at the movements involved in its constitution and preservation, as well as examining some readings of the documentary collection, observing oscillations and (im)possibilities in the trajectory of this black woman intellectual.

Keywords: “personal archive”; Nize Isabel de Moraes; Senegal; history; “biography of the collection”.
