Abstract

This paper investigates the complex set of practices that became the privileged way of transmission, circulation and connection among people, ideas, and orders of thought; and reflects upon the writing systems and knowledge circulation that emerged in order to bring about the transmission of values, customs, and knowledge in the Hispanic monarchy, in the 16th and 17th centuries. The object of this research is the constitution of a manuscripts and printed collection in the Court’s heart and the collector himself, the Portuguese Bishop Jerônimo Mascarenhas (1611-1656), chronicler and historian.
