A “disorderly filed valuable documentation”: the move of the Ministério das Relações Exteriores [Ministry of Foreign Affairs] to Brasília and its permanent archive

Abstract

This article presents the genesis of the Brasília’s unit of Itamaraty’s Historical Archive. It argues that to understand the constitution of its funds it is essential grasp the legacy of Itamaraty’s activities in Rio de Janeiro until 1970 and the consequences of restrictions imposed during the military dictatorship.
